Artist Statement Andi Hazelden

“To be naked is to be oneself. 
To be nude is to be seen naked by others and yet not recognised for oneself.” 
― John Berger, Ways of Seeing 

 

In the vulnerability of nudity our emotions become visible, we cannot hide them. In this series, I try to capture the raw emotion of these female figures. Using alcohol inks to represent the female form has allowed the unpredictable flow of the material to channel emotions such as loss, empathy and strength. All emotions are valuable as they enable us to attach ourselves to what matters. Naked emotion gives us awareness and the power to relate to others.
